About Official Merchant

Good payment decisions start with

understanding your business.

I spent 20 years in credit card processing sales, working directly with thousands of merchants — from small independent businesses to companies processing millions of dollars a month.

Official Merchant is where I put that experience to work helping owners sort through pricing, technology, integrations, sales pitches, and situations where a standard processing setup may not fit.

20 years of merchant-facing experience

Why this site exists

There is no single

best processor

for every business.

Payment processing is rarely just a question of finding the lowest quoted rate.

A point-of-sale system, accounting platform, ecommerce setup, scheduling tool, or industry-specific software can make one payment option far more practical than another.

A different provider may offer attractive pricing, but switching can also mean giving up useful integrations, changing workflows, retraining employees, or creating new headaches.

Sometimes changing processors makes sense. Sometimes keeping what already works is the better decision. The goal here is to help you understand the tradeoffs before you choose.

What you will find here

Practical guidance, not a one-size-fits-all pitch.

Official Merchant is built around the questions business owners actually face when choosing, keeping, or changing a payment setup.

1

Compare payment options

Understand how processors and payment platforms differ in pricing, capabilities, service, contracts, and the types of businesses they are designed to serve.

2

Understand the value of integrations

See when accounting, POS, ecommerce, scheduling, or industry software makes an integrated payment option worth more than a slightly lower processing rate.

3

Look beyond the headline rate

Consider processing costs alongside software, equipment, funding, support, contract terms, checkout experience, and the effort required to run the system every day.

4

Recognize when the standard path may not fit

Learn why industry risk, previous declines, unusual processing history, chargebacks, recurring billing, or other business factors can point toward a more specialized processing relationship.

What experience taught me

The business should come before the sales pitch.

After years of sitting across the table from merchants, a few principles came up again and again.

Convenience has real value.
A tightly integrated payment system can sometimes be worth more than a slightly lower processing rate.

The lowest rate is not always the lowest cost.
Fees matter, but so do software, equipment, support, funding, checkout friction, integrations, and the owner’s time.

Switching is not the goal.
Changing providers should solve a meaningful business problem. If the current setup works well, staying put can be the smarter choice.

Different merchants need different paths.
Industry, sales channel, average ticket, volume, software, recurring billing, risk, and growth plans can all change what makes sense.

Payment processing should fit the business.
The business should not have to reorganize itself simply to accommodate a processor or payment platform.

How recommendations are approached

Explain why something may fit — and when it may not.

Official Merchant is an informational and advertorial website. Processors, payment platforms, software companies, and related services may be featured when they appear useful for a particular type of merchant or business situation.

The goal is not to present every product as right for everyone. It is to explain the fit, the tradeoffs, and the questions worth considering before you move forward.

How Official Merchant makes money

Partner relationships are part of the business.

Official Merchant may receive referral, commission, or ongoing compensation when a merchant signs up for or uses certain processors, payment platforms, software, or other services through links or referrals on this site.

Compensation does not make an option right for every business. Recommendations are intended to help owners compare practical choices, and important pricing, eligibility, and terms should always be confirmed with the provider.

An important distinction

My experience was merchant-facing, not underwriting.

I was not the person sitting in an underwriting department making approval decisions. My role was working with merchants — learning how the business operated, explaining options, putting deals together, and helping owners decide what made sense.

Official Merchant does not make bank or processor underwriting decisions, set card-network rules, or guarantee rates, approvals, savings, funding times, or other results. Content on this site is general information and should not be treated as legal, tax, accounting, or financial advice.
